Money Can But A Fine Dog But Only Love Can Make The Tail Wag

Shortales Reg. German Shorthaired Pointers is an exclusive preservation breeding kennel in Ramona California located in the northeast foothills of San Diego County . Health, longevity and temperament are our utmost focus in order to provide a wonderful pet for your family.

I have been involved in purebred dogs since 1968 when my mother Audrey bought me an Irish Setter to show. I then decided that I wanted a sporting dog that didn’t have to be groomed asmuch for shows as my college schedule didn’t allow for it. So I contacted Inge Clody of Minado’s German Shorthaired Pointers and bought “Jasmine” as a 7 week old puppy in 1973. Jasmine became American and Canadian Ch. Minado’s Starr Jasmine and the foundation of Shortales kennels.

My  “real job” was a cancer and ageing researcher at UCSD where I worked from 1983 through retirement in  2011. This is where I met my husband Tim, he was doing his Post Doctorate research at the UCSD Cancer Center following his graduation from USC with a PHD in Molecular Biology. He didn’t have a dog at the time because of school but his family has always owned Boxers and he had a Black Lab that was his very own dog as a child. When he first met the shorthairs it was love at first sight. For his birthday that year I gave him his first shorthair “Panache”. Tim always supported me in my “dog show habit” staying home and taking care of the dogs that weren’t being actively campaigned. He took an active role in whelping litters and puppy socialization, he could be found carrying around puppies while he was out tending the property until he passed away. Tim enjoyed helping run the clubs hunt tests and running the dogs. We both have taken an active role in educating the public on responsible dog ownership whenever possible. We feel it is important to help friends, family and the public find the best dog for their lifestyle so we are happy to do breeder referral for many breeds.

My job as a researcher lead to my appointment as the GSPCA Health Committee Chairman in 2006. I have stepped down as Chairman while still very active as a committee member. I have served on the GSPCA as the Southwest Director, Top 25 Chairman for many years and an AKC Licensed Judge . I am very active in 2 all breed kennel clubs as President of Cabrillo and Lake Mathews Kennel Club as well as show chairman for Cabrillo. I am also the Club Outreach Director for Show-Safe that promotes a safe environment at dog shows where everyone can thrive. This is through teaching and setting an example of respect, integrity, safety, advocacy and collaboration.

Sandy Garlinger of Coronet GSP’s and I started co-breeding litters in 2011 and have done so since. After Tim’s passing and her divorce she moved to the ranch to make our breeding and traveling easier.  Breeding and buying a puppy must be a lifelong commitment that we take very seriously. We are just a phone call away for any reason when you buy a Shortales /Coronet GSP. With our vast knowledge and experience with the breed,  we are your best resource for all that might arise while you own one of our dogs. Welcome to the family.
